Hidden beneath the cobblestones of Leadenhall Market’s stunning alleyways lies a wine bar as replete in its product as Aladdin’s Cave.

Bedales, at Number 55 in Leadenhall Market, is a City favourite for the discerning wine lover, even running WSET wine courses and regular Friday evening Wine and Cheese tasting events run by Dan Belmont (is there any other more established combination of palette-pleasing delights?). Indeed, cheese is a regular staple on Bedales’ tasting menu, including an English Dorstone goats’ cheese, French raw cows’ milk Tomme De Savoie, and 14-month matured Swiss Old Schlossberger. In addition, the charcuterie is nothing to be sneered at, either, with Rosette De Lyon and Speck joining the usual list (unless, of course, you’re vegetarian).

However, the draw is obviously the wine at Bedales (its Spitalfields sibling carries over 400 lines of the stuff) and that menu at Leadenhall includes such gems as a St. Julien La Reserve de Leoville Barton 2014 Bordeaux (if your tastes run red), a Pouilly-Fuissé Mis en Bouche 2016 Domaine Eric Forest Burgundy (if they be white), and a healthy list of bubbly and hops alternatives, too. No stranger to live music as a venue – its Borough Market sibling playing host to Sunday Sessions from 6pm onwards each week in support of local musical talent.
