Fleet Street is one of the most famous streets in the world, home to the media revolution at the beginning of the 18th century. In 1695, England’s strict printing censorship laws fizzled out, and within months a prolific newspaper press came back to life. By mid-1730s, 31 papers were being sold on the streets of London! In the early 18th century London boasted the freest and most profitable press in the world.

Today Fleet Street’s printing offices have moved elsewhere and have been replaced by blue plaques. However, Fleet Street remains a thriving area in the City. Full of retail, bars and restaurants, the whole area boasts a vibrant street scene connecting the City with the buzzy West End and the Thames.

The whole area is home to a number of delicious independent restaurants. We’ve rounded up some of our favourites below. If you work in and around Fleet Street, then check them out at lunch time, or one day after work. Enjoy!
