The London Capital Club: you may have heard of it, or perhaps it just makes you think of whisky and cigars. As one of London’s original gentlemen’s clubs – its predecessor was around since 1843 – it has a reputation for excellence and exquisite service. Responding to the demands of modern city workers, while also staying true to the principles of a traditional members club, this is where the City takes their clients out for a treat.
While you need to be a member to visit their very English Club Bar, their equally traditional restaurant is open to all. Based underground, Tavern Steak & Oyster is a place where you can get away from the City buzz, which, let’s be honest, is something we could all do with every now and then.
Local & seasonal ingredients
With an all-day menu and daily opening hours from 7.30 am to 10 pm (weekdays only) the Tavern is suitable for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their cuisine is predominantly British, and their seasonal menus are always created with locally sourced ingredients. As their name might suggest they do indeed specialise in oysters and steak, both of which are of British origin.

That’s not where their specialities stop, though. We particularly liked the Cornish sea bream served with deliciously cooked salsify (yup, we’d forgotten about that veg too), wild mushrooms and parsnip puree. A beautiful explosion of wintery flavours made even better with a side of courgette fries. Other signature dishes include Guinness cured salmon with pickled cucumber and the Venison shank with chestnut sauce. Vegetarians needn’t be worried either, as they up a very comforting plate of winter heritage squash.
Comforting sweetness
So what’s for pud? Well, a traditional gentlemen’s club asks for desserts that taste even better with coffee or a digestive. From French pastry profiteroles to warm spiced pineapple cake and a good ole apple crumble, the Tavern knows how to please the sweet tooths out there.

Looking for a quiet place to take your new client or just want to have a break from your chaotic day at work? The London Capital Club might well be the place for you. Interested in becoming a member and enjoy their international benefits? You can find more info on that here.
