We don’t know about you but we’re big fans of the afternoon tea, and we’ll bet your mum is too. After all, the event includes some of the best things in life: tea, champagne and mini sandwiches.

This is our list of the finest places in the City to sip English brekkie with a raised pinkie (or alternatively stuff yourself silly with clotted cream #noshame) and celebrate the best woman in the world – your mum.

The Tasty One

Experts in all things cake, Bea’s do afternoon tea with a sugary twist. In addition to the usual goodies, there’s also mini meringues and fruity marshmallows, Valrhona brownies, white chocolate blondies and lemon / raspberry brownies. The sandwiches are also served on brioche buns. If your mum has a sweet-tooth, this is the place to take her. Open every day, last round at 5.30pm.

Where: Bea’s Cake Boutique, EC4M

How much: £26.50 (not including bubbly)

The High Tea Alternative One

Be adventurous and add some Indian flavour to your afternoon tea; enjoy the High Tea Maharani Chai at The Darbaar. Beautifully prepared, you can tuck in on spicy bonda Bombay style masala chicken or cumin fritters, subz shami kebab and lentil pattie’s with yoghurt raita or try the tandoori paneer tikka wrap. On the sweet side, there’s carrot hulwa samosas with saffron custard, cardamom shrikhand on nan khatai, Valrhona dark chocolate chilli cake and gulab jamun.

Where: Darbaar by Abdul Yaseen, EC2A

How much: £25

The Traditional One

In the heart of the Square Mile, you’ll find Chiswell Street Dining.  The elegant interior will give your visit that exclusive feeling but the price won’t burn a hole in your wallet. Pop into the Barbican theatre afterwards to complete the evening. Available Monday to Friday, this is the perfect option if you want to treat your mum but can’t do Sunday’s.

Where: Chiswell Street Dining, EC1Y

How much: £20 – £29

The One on the river

The traditional elements of an afternoon tea + a view + a cruise + ample opportunity to fill up your Instagram account with stylish photos of the city. The afternoon tea cruise has an upstairs floor with a 360-degree view of London. If your mum is visiting from out of town, this one’s a given. All aboard from 3.15pm to 5pm.

Where: All along the river, departs from Tower Pier.

How much: from £31.00
